Match Report
Radley College Boys-U15B vs  Wellington College
On: Saturday, 07 May 2022
Venue: Away

After a somewhat sloppy performance against Cheltenham last week and then again against the M1 on Thursday, the Radley College JC2s were looking forward to putting in an improved and focused performance against Wellington College. Things could not have started better. Having lost the toss, we were sent into the field and picked up a wicket with the first bowl of the innings, courtesy of a superb delivery from Toby Hopton. He also picked up a second wicket with his fourth ball leaving Wellington 4-2 off the first over. Fellow opener Jonty Scott kept the pressure on, bowling full and straight, also picking up a wicket in his first over. At 6-3 off 2, we couldn''t have made a better start. Things went from bad to worse for Wellington thanks to some excellent work from George Hopton behind the stumps which resulted in a run out. Scott picked up another wicket in his second over and Hopton in his fourth to leave Wellington 20-6. Lade replaced Hopton and also picked up a wicket in his first over before Wellington managed to string their first partnership of sorts together (14). Sykes and Pilkington, however, were brought on and cleaned up the tail quickly. Wellington had been bowled out for 44. Although it was a tough surface to bat on and some of the batters played some poor shots, it was still an excellent bowling and fielding performance from the JC2s. Our chase got off to a very bad start with George Hopton running himself out and Toby Hopton missing a straight one to leave us 4-2, the same as Wellington had been! Balding and Pilkington, however, steadied the ship before the former fell thanks to a loose shot (again!) leaving us 23-3. Charlie Payne came in and batted proactively, scoring 21 off 10 and wrapping things up. We had won by 7 wickets.
