Match Report
Radley College Boys-U18C vs  St Edward's School, Oxford
On: Tuesday, 24 Sep 2019
Venue: at Home

Hard pitches forced St Edward's 3rd XV to play here at Radley and they kindly travelled over and refereed the game. The scrums were uncontested from the outset and this seemed to affect the way both sides approached the breakdown too, leaving a game of rugby that was fast and loose, with interruptions mostly due to early-season handling errors and a degree of unfamiliarity in this new side. Radley took an early lead by attacking the ball at pace and refusing to let it die. Although St Edward's claimed one try back before half time, due to our reluctance to contest when the ball was on the floor, Radley were clearly ahead at half time. The second half (played at 14 a-side due to injuries to the opposition) saw some excellent carrying and support lines and effective, if slightly risky, off-loading, which, coupled with a greater determination in the rucks, resulted in a rather one-sided half. Flanker Ward deserves a mention for his two tries and support lines, earning him MVP, as does centre (and later fly-half) Donaldson for 27 points including 3 tries from impressive and powerful running. The pace was sustained thanks to another energetic performance from scrum-half Hall. The team kept pushing on and played with a positive spirit throughout.
