Match Report
Radley College Boys-U14A vs  Tonbridge School
On: Saturday, 09 Oct 2021
Venue: Away

This game always promised to be fiercely contested and so it proved to be. Tonbridge were superbly combative in everything they did and in many respects deserved the victory. However, Radley were resilient and kept bouncing back from Tonbridge scores. The game did not start well for Radley. A knock on off the kick off set the scene. A poorly contested ruck set it further and Tonbridge were a score up after only 2 mins. Radley bounced back with a score from Hughes in the corner before then going back and conceding off the kick off. This time because we failed to put a guard in place e at the breakdown. Another disappointing way to concede. Yet again we fought back though. This time through Eze. At this point we started to control some of the play but still found ourselves missing too many first up tackles, largely because we were not getting off the line in defence. Frustratingly, just as we were about to take the lead for the first time in the game, we turned the ball over on their line and Tonbridge went the length. More weak tackling just after half time meant that Tonbridge scored their fourth try to make it 20 -10. At this point Radley could have folded but this team is made of stronger stuff and Max Eze led the charge, rampaging through their defence to set up a chance for Brooks to finish brilliantly. We needed one more score to draw level and this we got through Williams. Now we had the chance to win it. Three golden chances went begging. Still, it would not have felt quite right to have won this game. There were too many parts of the game where we were bettered. What a chance to learn - this came could and should prove invaluable to the squad in the long run. Thank you very much to all of the parents who continue to support us brilliantly.
