Match Report
Radley College Boys-U14A vs  Sherborne School
On: Saturday, 16 Sep 2023
Venue: Away

With only six sessions of preparation time under their belts, it was time for the Midgets 1 class of 2023 to step into competitive action. Our great friends and rivals in Dorset, Sherborne College, were the opposition, so having enjoyed a relaxed team breakfast together, we boarded the bus with much nervous energy fuelling the competitive fires.

The opening exchanges were frenetic but the energy levels and commitment from both XV's was admirable and encouraging. Pryde was immense in the opening exchanges; he carried cleverly and gave us sound front foot ball. Johnstone crossed for the first try and King converted. King's rugby intelligence was instrumental in everything good that Radley did. His kick return was clever and his work under the high ball impressive. Bremner pulled strings nicely at 10 and Cowell was busy on the wing. Two further well worked scores followed in the first half and Radley found themselves 19-0 to the fore at half time. Two simple messages were delivered at half time, neither of which were unfortunately evidenced throughout the second half! However, as Sherborne tired, gaps in their defence started appearing. Brown was superb in his ability to exploit this, and his surging runs caused constant problems for the Sherborne tacklers. Sundavadra grew into the game brilliantly, finishing as probably the standout performer of the afternoon. Further scores followed, with captain Bayly at the heart of everything good that Radley managed. The game finished at 48-0, which was not a reflection at all of Sherborne's superb efforts.

It was lovely for the boys to touch base with their parents after the game and to see the smiles on their faces. To have so many supporters follow us to the depths of Dorset was such a big boost for the team. Thank you - the journey has begun, and many more exciting challenges/chapters await.
