Match Report
Radley College Boys-U15D vs  Tonbridge School
On: Saturday, 07 Oct 2023
Venue: Away

On a very hot day, with the pitches very hard, this was always going to be a tough away fixture. Perhaps rather slow after the journey, the team were camped in their own half for most of the first half. Too gentle in the ruck, and with too many handling errors, the team still managed to settle and restrict Tonbridge to one try at half time. After the break, the team came out firing, with a more determined drive in the ruck. The pressure told, and the team ran through the phases before Arthur Bland managed to force his way through to the line. But straight off from the opposition kick off, a lapse in concentration led to a Tonbridge try, as a number of boys watched the kick fall without claiming it. Tonbridge were quickly up, and after one phase of play had scored again. The team did not give up, but suffered again through poor tackling to go down 19-5. However, applied pressure in the final quarter brought reward with a well worked wide ball to Merlin Wenger who scored in the corner. Ricky Xia ran hard yards all afternoon, before moving up to the Cs, but Leo Conlon took his place as the man to take the ball across the gain line, spinning well out of tackles. Overall, we were too careless when going into contact, and lacked the get up and go of the Tonbridge scrum half, who was probably the difference between the two sides.
