Match Report
Radley College Boys-U15D vs  Bedford School
On: Thursday, 21 Sep 2023
Venue: at Home

After a comfortable win last Saturday, the team expected a more testing challenge against Bedford, who they lost to last year. The squad had also lost four useful players through injury and illness, so when they saw the size of the Bedford players, there were some initial nerves. However, in an attritional contest, Radley's hard tackling won them the game. Outstanding in this regard were Arthur Bland and Hugo Pinsent, but they were also well supported by Will Rose, Mateo Mendez de Vigo de Salinas and others. On a number of occasions, only Arthur Bland stood between a hard running Bedford player and the try line, but each time he timed his tackle to perfection. As the game developed, the team patched together more fluid phases, releasing the pacey running of Kit Hemmings and William Rose, both of whom made many yards. Tries came from the tireless Ricky Xia, the speedy William Rose and finally Kit Hemmings, who arcing runs opened up the Bedford defence on a number of occasions. Bedford however never gave up and could have drawn the game after Radley's concentration wavered after a restart. There is still much to work on, but overall the boys can be very pleased with the physicality they displayed to win.
