Match Report
Radley College Boys-U14A vs  Bedford School
On: Thursday, 21 Sep 2023
Venue: Away

Travelling to Bedford is never easy, especially at the end of what has been a long three weeks for the Midgets 1 squad. Regardless, the squad were excellent. A good Bedford side, fresh off the back of a 39-14 win against Rugby were determined to also build upon their good start.

However, Radley played with much more precision than at Sherborne the previous Saturday. They handled with accuracy, fixed defenders effectively, tackled resolutely and approached the breakdown with more precision.....when they finally reached it! Hint therefore at our primary work on this week - speed of support at the breakdown. A necessity to see the breakdown as a split-second competition rather than a spectator sport. So, lots to work on but a very coachable group to work with, who after just one hour of breakdown skill work, improved immeasurably in today's contest.

Try scorers in the first half were Sundavadra from intercept, Johnstone from an outside break and Carter Shaw from Wickens' quick thinking at a penalty. The second half saw the rain draw in and after 10 minutes of disjointed play, we saw 15 minutes of high-quality handling and progress. The industrious Fergus Hoar crossed for a well-earned try and then Carter Shaw added a second.

Cowell was the star man, alongside Bremner. Both well backed by a number of very good contributions across 1-15. A proper week of training awaits before we face old rivals St Paul's, at home on Saturday 30th. What an occasion that promises to be.

Lots of travelling support followed us again, so thank you to the parents who managed another long away trip between work and other commitments.
