Match Report
Radley College Boys-U14A vs  Eton College
On: Thursday, 12 Oct 2023
Venue: at Home

This was a tired and reluctant performance by a Radley side who perhaps felt that they deserved to win before having to put in the hard work that performing (and importantly improving) takes. A huge lack of urgency to visit the breakdowns with any purpose cast an evil spell over the 1st half performance! Ball generated at snail's pace would have perhaps been quicker (!) meaning that no quality go-forward could be generated in other areas of the field. Cowell was superb regardless. He bustled and busied himself into lifting the side from their mediocrity with two very well taken tries. Half time gave us the opportunity to mark ourselves and the player's thoughts were reflective and accurate; we had not been accurate enough at all. The second half started with Eton scoring a well deserved try. Two missed tackles from a number 8 pick led to that score. This ignited Radley who shook off their lethargy to start playing some proper rugby. Front foot ball at last, quick ball too; now we were talking. Good tries followed through Bayly, who was excellent throughout the second half, Wickens, King and a penalty try. Much work now needed in the Harrow week post Leave Away, especially on generating proper paced breakdown ball.

It was a shame to end the half of term with a flat performance but it has been a pleasure to see these boys start their Radley rugby journey in an emphatic and dedicated fashion. As ever, the parental support has been overwhelmingly positive and consistent. Thank you so much to those loyal followers.

Player of the match shared between Cowell and Bayly.
