Given previous results in this fixture, this local derby was always going to be a close contest between two competitive sides. Abingdon opened the scoring but Harry Oliver harnessed his inner Cheslin Kolbe to charge down the conversion, 0-5. Radley responded with a try of their own with a well worked strike play leading to on overlap down the left flank and Will Brooks scoring in the corner. The physicality between the two forward packs was evenly matched throughout the game but Abingdon were more clinical in the final third and took more of their opportunities to convert pressure into points. In contrast, Radley’s execution in the final third was not as good as previous matches as several chances to score out wide were squandered. Finally score was 17-5 to Abingdon which doesn’t reflect how close the match had been for large portions of the game. Plenty to work on for the final three home matches of the season.
