Match Report
Radley College Boys-U18D vs  Tonbridge School
On: Saturday, 25 Nov 2023
Venue: Away

As the return leg following the 14-14 draw at Radley earlier in the season, this game was hotly anticipated and it did not disappoint. The Radley boys had developed their game with Tonbridge in mind and were highly motivated, taking in their stride the loss of four leading figures to fill injury gaps above. Radley began with considerable intensity, winning the ball back off the kick-off and playing through around 20 phases. The Tonbridge defence was resilient but eventually broke. The 0-7 advantage was overturned by Tonbridge due to some defensive lapses and Radley had the challenge of returning from 14-7 down at half time. New energy was found at the start of the second period and Radley spent most of the time in the Tonbridge half. A successful penalty narrowed the gap before Radley touched down to move 14-15 up - only to fumble off the kick-off and see the motivated Tonbridge kick-chasers snipe an easy converted try to restore their lead to 21-15. The team leaders stepped up at this point and Radley worked hard chasing kicks, rucking aggressively and putting the Tonbridge defence under irresistible pressure. A converted try (21-22), a penalty and another converted try took Radley to 32-21 at the final whistle. As an all-round team performance, captain JJ took the MVP award but honourable mentions go to Hugo and Wilf for their effective carries. An away win at Tonbridge it something to be savoured and the boys should be satisfied with their commitment and imaginative gameplay.
