The boys put on a good display of hockey today. We were playing a much a bigger and more physical team but we were resilient and didn't give up. We started the game deep in our own half, Hector Ward and Alastair Dunn stood out in the back row, making some good tackles in the D. Our first good chance was a strong flick by Sam McCulloch, narrowly missing the goal and hitting the post. Guy Donald, my player of the match made some incredible saves against some strong hits. Half time was nil all.
We started the second half enthusiastically, confident in scoring a goal. We worked hard on playing the ball wide and getting width on it. As a result tiring Rugby out. Otto Williams played very well, making some nice runs down the wing and nearly scoring once. The ball was played into the edge of the D, I controlled the ball and hit it cleanly into the bottom right corner of the goal. With only ten minutes remaining we were one up. We were very tired but we worked hard to get back when we lost the ball. Eventually the finale whistle blew and we did a three cheers. - Charlie Phillips (A Social), Capt.
