Match Report
Radley College J Colts 1 vs  Wellington College
On: Saturday, 13 Jan 2024
Venue: Away

Considering the fact that this was the first game of the season, the quality of hockey produced was encouragingly high. Wellington had the better of the opening exchanges with superior ball retention, but we slowly got a foothold in the match through good work rate and solid defence - George De Ruig, in particular, was excellent all afternoon. Wellington eventually scored, and we couldn't argue too much about being 1-0 down at halftime. We started the second half strongly and managed to create more chances. Austin Barnes' opener from a penalty corner was well-deserved and gave us even more confidence. Not long after that, Manny Lumsden put us ahead. Wellington responded with regular chances themselves, but Andrew Coke was fantastic in goal and kept them at bay. With less than 10 minutes to go, Will Cordle provided the moment of the match with a thumping backhand to put some daylight between us. There were some nervous moments at the end, but we held on for a very satisfying 3-1 victory. Plenty to work on but we can certainly go forward with confidence.
