The last fixture before Leave Away v Eton has always produced a challenging match for both sides. Eton have produced good results this season so Radley knew they were in for a tough afternoon.
It began bright enough with the Radley defence holding up well against early pressure and the midfield working hard to spoil Eton possession. Freddie Blacker stepping through from defence gave the team good shape and a number of D entries produced corners. Unfortunately the routine was not working as well as usual and chances were squandered. Despite this, Radley had the better of the first half chances, Olly Southan going very close after excellent work down the right from Rory AG and Toby Cook. Two further saves from the Eton keeper kept the score 0-0 at half time.
From the start Eton pressed high and with a tiring midfield Radley began to succumb to pressure. Turnover ball in the midfield led to a series of Eton corners and they eventually scored from a drag flick. Eton 1-0 Radley.
A tough 15 minutes followed, the Radley squad looked fatigued and down to 12 players struggled to retain any possession and Eton stepped up a gear. Two goals in four minutes saw the score line Eton 3-0 Radley.
This is not a situation the team have faced before and all credit to them for a last rally in the final 10 minutes. MOM Archie Durden Smith, the most threatening forward all afternoon breaking into the D on several occasions, one of which led to a goal mouth scramble and fittingly the hard working Jamie Fletcher finished well.
Final score Eton 3-1 Radley. Time to rest and reflect over Leave Away with the return match next on the fixture list.
