Match Report
Radley College Midgets 1 vs  Marlborough College
On: Saturday, 02 Mar 2024
Venue: at Home

Following the excellent day of hockey at Reading hockey club on Friday where Midge 1 won the regional section of the National school's hockey competition, we were back in action against Marlborough. A first half of missed chances still saw Radley manage to bag 3 goals. Newbury and Oyewumi opened the scoring before Newbury got his second shortly before half time. Cordle continued to impress in goal making a sequence of excellent saves and Hoar, new to the squad continued to impress with his composure and passing accuracy. Legs were very evidently heavy come the second half and Marlborough had an excellent 12 minute spell after half time with Cordle again coming to the rescue on several occasions. Thereafter the excellent Hutchinson grabbed the game by demanding the ball more often than he had previously done at centre back, we started to play proper hockey as a result, passing around Marlborough rather than through them. Lee started to look assured as part of this and two further goals followed, one through Hargreaves and a third from Newbury. Bayly was classy and composed as always and Bignell made some surging runs. The momentum continues and the team continues to make good progress. It has been an excellent 24 hours for the squad in which we have played 6 games of hockey! Five, twenty four minute games yesterday and one full match today. The side have conceded just one goal in those 6 matches. Thank you as always to the fantastic group of supporting parents. Next week we play Abingdon away at 13.30.
