The local derby v Abingdon is always a big fixture. The Radley team were coming off a decent draw with St. Edwards and Abingdon a string of high scoring victories.
The early exchanges belonged to Radley, the press was effective and the direct style unsettled Abingdon. Three early corners were squandered as the routine couldn't put all the components together and Abingdon were off the hook. The play began to equalize and the Abingdon midfield and forwards seized more control. Skipper Freddie Blacker doing an excellent job to keep the lively Abingdon CF from scoring. Two Abingdon corners were kept out and play was pretty even for the first 25 minutes, then a Radley half chance missed and Abingdon broke quickly. The second half did not start well for Radley, the Abingdon forwards pressed at every opportunity and when the defence cleared it came straight back. The pressure told, an unlucky deflection and good anticipation from Abingdon on the base line led to a soft scrambled goal. Radley 0-2 Abingdon.
Radley tried to rally but couldn't retain the ball high enough up the pitch and every turnover was punished. Charlie Weston saving from close range on two occasions before the inevitable third and fourth goals, both coming from well worked corners and it was quickly Radley 0-4 Abingdon.
With pride to play for Radley pushed forward looking for a way back into the match but the Abingdon defence held firm, a couple of half chances but no clear cut opportunities.
They stayed on top for the last period but couldn't break down a well organised Abingdon defence.
