This was a proper game of hockey. Both sides had players who could carry the ball strongly and both sides tried to pass the ball around the pitch. Midgets 1 started strongly with Oyewumi looking dangerous down the right and several half chances occurring as well as early short corners. However Tonbridge worked their way into the game and did not allow Bremner and Hutchinson to dictate play. Indeed we had to rely on strong, calm defending from Bayly on several occasions. Tonbridge struck just before half time and scored curtesy of a neat deflection from 5 yards out. The second half had less composure as both sides tired but with 10 minutes to go Midgets 1 started to apply pressure. A short corner was won and Oyewumi brilliantly steered the ball home. 1-1. Tonbridge then committed a foul when in attack and Bremner lifted a delightful aerial into space. Suddenly we had a 2 on 1 situation. The ball was played to Wickens whose shot was superbly smoothered by the keeper. But the ball broke back to Wickens who calmly slotted home. A 2-1 win.
i hope the boys thoroughly enjoyed a close fought match and have learnt much out of the game.
