Match Report
Radley College 1st X vs  Stowe School
On: Tuesday, 31 Oct 2023
Venue: Away

This was a well-contested match to start the season. Though no rugby players were selected (with the Harrow block fixture on Saturday in mind), the backbone of the team came from tactically aware and skillful hockey players who were able to command the game. The first quarter was a slow-burner, with one great save from Alfie in goal, and sensible, alert defending from Freddie and Jasper in particular. Morgan opened the scoring on the stroke of the end of the quarter to give something to show for the pressure and possession enjoyed. Soon into the second quarter, though, Stowe equalised, and it needed some calm control from midfield to see Captain Freddie Blacker take two goals to give a small buffer going into half time. The second half saw things open up a bit more, as Radley grew into their first ever Lacrosse fixture: Morgan added two more, Freddie B another, and Toby scored a bizarre goal which seemed to creep in and out of the Stowe net before being awarded. As the goals went in, it gave HC the luxury to give longer periods to the substitutes on the bench. Once Rory A-G found his shooting strings he was able to add two more goals, along with one from Max; with the final quarter a 3-2 win for Radley, the final score was 10-4.
