Venue: at Home

Finally the team got the chance to start the season with the usual tough fixture against Tonbridge. Both sides featured a mixture of senior and junior school boys. With only two boys from last year's squad remaining it was certainly a new look Radley Bigside.

The early exchanges belonged mostly to Tonbridge with the Radley defence of Freddie Barker, Ben Glassey and Ed Read being tested in all areas but standing firm. The Radley midfield began to find their feet and a lot of the contest in the first half took place in the middle of the pitch. Radley's defensive corner team kept out two attempts and keeper Barney Bentley got off his line twice to Tonbridge attackers. The deadlock was broken two minutes before halftime as the Tonbridge forwards managed to bundle a half chance over the line. Radley 0 -1 Tonbridge..

A spirted second half start by Radley saw them gain more possession, with Olly Southan and Toby Cook working tirelessly to make their presence felt. Tight marking and confidence on the ball allowed the players to start stringing a few passes together. George Butterworth and Will Cordle both putting in a good shift alongside the Radley defence meant there was a solid platform to work from. Harry Leetham eventually winning the first Radley short corner after a promising run into the D. Manny Lumsden managed to leave the injection in the D but Radley retained the ball, Olly Southan finally getting the ball out the D before going back in to shoot . His effort was deflected by Lumsden for a well deserved equaliser. Radley 1-1 Tonbridge.

Within 5 minutes Tonbridge were ahead again, the ball finding it's way into the D and an early deflection wrong footed Bentley. Radley 1-2 Tonbridge.

The side were not deterred and dug deep to keep asking questions of the Tonbridge defence. Luca Newbury almost set up Lumsden for a second but the keeper reacted well. Finally a second corner and a chance to put the routine in place. Lumsden injected, Barker stopped and stand in skipper Olly Southan smashed home the shot. Radley 2 - 2 Tonbridge.

With only 5 minutes left, Radley pressed hard but also worked hard without the ball to deny Tonbridge any further chances. Final score Radley 2-2 Tonbridge. The right result on the day.
