The eagerly anticipated first game of the season did not disappoint with a brand new block fixture against Epsom College. The first 20 minutes of the match was a proper contest with the Epsom 13 causing some issues defensively. However, the power of Jordan-Willis from close range gave Radley the advantage with two opening tries to take a slender lead. This lead was extended with a well executed strike play by the backline from a midfield scrum shortly before half time with Hamish Kennedy going under the sticks untouched. Lumsden also crossed following a sustained period of pressure to see the half time score 24-7. In the second half, Radley really found their groove attacking from deep and running in some impressive team tries. The fitness and conditioning of the team was noteworthy given the fact that this was the first match of the season. Exciting times ahead for this group as there are still plenty of improvements to be made in training. The game was watched by England’s Will Stuart (OR, D Social) who remarked how well the team played especially for the first game of the season.
