For the first game of the season, everyone was excited to get put to the test by the team that made games so competitive last year. With training going throughout the Michaelmas term everyone was ready to play Tonbridge. It was an exciting start to the first half but unfortunately Tonbridge were the first to strike with an easy tap in to score. With that, the first half went a bit slow and Tonbridge scored another. However, Radley saw some light and with a shot in at the goalkeeper, Addy found a rebound and carefully slotted it in the bottom corner of the goal. With that the score was 2-1 to Tonbridge and Radley started looking better. With more great counter-attacks from the opposition, Tonbridge were able to slip two more into the net. Towards the end of the first half there were more short corners to Radley which were very nearly scored by wonderful drag flicks from Oscar. Then, another attempt at goal led to Oscar slapping one back post where it reached Jasper who deflected it into the back of the net to finish the first half.
Radley came out in the second half calmer and more composed, creating lovely opportunities with some great passing plays. More opportunities came with short corners that the Tonbridge goalkeeper managed to keep out. Unfortunately, Tonbridge also got the last goal as they scored at the end of a very even and well played second half. This made the final score 5-2 to Tonbridge. Oscar came out with man of the match with his excellent short corner routine and his assist in the second goal. Overall, a good first game from Radley and excited to play on Thursday.
